EXISTING BUILDINGS | PRECEDENTS

Besides group studies on the site, each group in the studio analyzed different buildings already existing in our site. We investigated building types, functions, floor ratios… etc. After specified these features, we determined precedent examples –which are similar in terms of usage or building type  for each building. Here, the existing buildings and their precedent examples;

  1. TOBB ETU HOSPITAL

2. NOTERLER BİRLİĞİ

PRECEDENT EXAMPLES | COURTYARD TYPOLOGY

EMSALSİZ | PREJURY | BOUNDARY & SECURITY

After site analyses which we have studied on the site (Söğütözü District) for 4 weeks, it is time to present our analyses as boundary and security group. Throughout this analyzing process, we tried to understand that what kind of boundaries occur, how those boundaries affect public activities and pedestrians and how the security issue is provided on the site. After gathering whole information, we transferred them into architectural diagrams.

READING ARCHITECTURAL PRECEDENTS | BARCELONA PAVILION

This semester, I am taking an architectural course which is Arch 481reading architectural precedents-. The aim of this course is giving the students the ability of understanding the design actions and design process of well known buildings around the world. The first precedent analysis is about Barcelona Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe. Thus, as groups with 2 people, my colleague Müge and me studied on this building and here, you can see our analyses about the building.

THE FIRST ANALYSES ON SITE| BOUNDARY – SECURITY

After a trip and observing the site ‘Söğütözü District‘,  as boundary and security group, we documented our experiences and observations about the site and tried to understand the terms ‘Security‘ and ‘Boundary‘. Thus, we searched the meaning of the words and tried to give certain meanings in architectural term. Then, we looked for the examples which already occur in our site. Here, you can reach our presentation and works.

THE SITE| OYAK RENAULT FACTORY IN SÖĞÜTÖZÜ

I’m sharing some photos taken from the site and its neighbors. The site which we will propose some design ideas is actually the area of the old Renault Car Factory near Mövenpick Hotel and TOBB  Hospital and opposite side of Armada Shopping Center in Söğütözü. Thus, you can have some ideas in your mind about the site’s characteristics.

EMSALSİZ | WITHOUT MEASURE-WITHOUT PRECEDENT

The term project’s title of Arch 401 Design Studio is Emsalsiz which can also be understood as without measure and without precedent. The project’s area is  in Ankara which is one of the metropolitan cities in Turkey and the northern section of the Eskişehir Road from the Konya Yolu Junction to the Çukurambar underpass, part of the recent urban center known generically as the Söğütözü District. Actually, the project is a large-scale urban project and the concepts complexity, program, materiality, mobility and scale become important for us. So, as the students of 401 design studio, we have to deal with the problem of ‘Bigness‘ in our projects. This is a new scale where architecture has to rethink about its essentials (Koolhaas, 1990s).

First of all, the instractors divided us into 6 groups for mapping and each group has its own profession in order to analyze the site. These 6 concepts are;

  1. Plan Update | Physical Morphology
  2. Silhouette | Site Elevations-Sections
  3. Geomorphology | Landscaping
  4. Land-use | Functions | Viability
  5. Mobility | Accessibility
  6. Boundaries | Security

My 2 colleagues and I took the concept ‘Boundaries | Security‘ and started to analyze the site. This analysis period have proceeded for 4 weeks of the semester.

Becoming 4th Year Student in Architecture!

Hello everybody!  I am experiencing the last year in  my architctural education in TED University. Actually, I am so excited to be getting closer to professional life in my job. However, at the same time, I am a little bit sad because the most valuable years of my life are almost over. Additionally, I am worried about bussiness world and cannot decide that what is next? or which is the best choice  -doing a master’s degree, having experiences by working someone’s office, having my own architectural office…. etc.- for me? Thus, as you see, this year is a little confusing for me. Now, I will be sharing with you my studies in this semester’s course ARCH 401. It is good to publish some posts here after a long time.
