My main reference for this project is passages around the site. Throughout these passages and Kemeraltı district, people both pass and spend their time. Thus, I want to design a passage from Kemeraltı site to the sea side of the area and make people to use this passage. Also, I want that people stop in this passage and experience both the building activities and proporties of the site. Here, you can see my posters in the jury.

THE SITE

ARCH402 | Harboring İzmir Mediterranean Academy

The project of the last semester in architecture department is to design a building harboring İzmir Mediterranean Academy. The academy was founded by the Metropolitan Municipality as a department that will support the realization of the vision; ‘İzmir, Mediterranean’s city of culture, art and design’. The major tasks of the academy are to strengthen the relation of public with history, to increase the design capacity in İzmir and increasing the awareness and demand in design and the last one; to enhance organic agriculture and ecologic settlement design.

In this project, the concepts of an innovative architectural design, an all-inclusive public building, an ecologically consious technology and a reappraisal of the historical context are crucial points for the design.

The project site is at the junction of Kordon, Konak Pier, Fevzi Paşa Boulevard, pedestrian path to Konak(Cumhuriyet Boulevard) and Kemeraltı that is the historical Bazaar of the city.

The program of the building consists of 3 main function groups which are convention facilities, culinary and shops and research facilities. The plot area is about 2500 square meters.
